Stone comprises four wards: Stonefield and Christchurch, St Michaels, Walton North, Walton South, 18 seats in total forming one Town Council. Currently Stone Independents hold 17 seats.

In addition, Stonefield and St Michaels forms a single ward on the Borough Council and has 3 seats and Walton North and South forms a single ward on the Borough Council and has 2 seats. At the last election on 2nd May 2019, Stone Independents won all 5 seats an increase of 4 seats and therefore fully represent the town on the Borough Council.

The 3 wards of Stonefield and Christchurch, St Michaels and Walton South comprise the county council seat for Stone, which Stone Independents retained at the election of 2021.

Stonefield and Christchurch ward runs from the Southern end of the town centre northwards and eastwards up to Oulton Cross and is bounded by the River Trent to the west. It includes the town centre businesses, a mix of residential areas, the green spaces of Crown Meadows and the Common Plott and the much admired Stonefield Park. The A520, the West Coast rail line and the canal access the town via the ward. The ward has 5 council seats of which Stone Independents hold 4.

St Michaels ward runs from the town centre southwards to the A51 bounded by the River Trent to the west. It is mainly residential including the Aston Lodge estate and includes the green space of Westbridge Park. The A51, the West Coast main rail link and the canal access the town via this ward. The ward has 5 council seats. 

Walton North ward is bounded by the River Trent to the east and the Eccleshall Road (B5026) to the south, Yarnfield Lane to the north and the M6 to the west. It is mainly residential with some retail and a school. The A34 and B5026 provide access to the town from the north and west respectively. The ward has 3 council seats.

Walton South ward is bounded by the River Trent to the east and the Eccleshall Rd (B5026) to the north, the M6 to the west and the A51 - A34 junction to the south. It has a mix of commercial activity on the Aston business park, residential areas, some retail and two schools. The A34 and B5026 provide access to the town from the south and west respectively. The ward has 5 council seats.
