Planning Applications
Of major importance to the town, applications for development are regularly submitted the Stafford Borough Council Planning Department and they have full powers to decide whether to accept or to reject that application. However the town council is allowed to review each application and to decide whether to recommend acceptance or rejection on the basis of benefit to the town, or positive or negative impact to residents. The Borough receive these recommendations but do not have to comply with them and very often proceed against the town's wishes.
The following applications (among many others) are under consideration:
Westbridge Park - The Borough Council is proceeding with this development and work should begin in Spring 2023. Stone Independents support this development.
HS2 railhead. Stone Independents challenge the need and the steadily increasing cost of Phase 2A of HS2, namely the Birmingham to Crewe section, which will pass to the west of the town just before the M6. Indeed the viability of the whole project is questionable. We strongly oppose the siting of the railhead on Yarnfield Lane which will realign the lane and will direct significant construction traffic onto the A34 greatly affecting the Walton and Newcastle Rd roundabouts. An alternative site near Madeley has been proposed, which we believe would have lower impact on surrounding areas but this is not being considered.
